Nemacolin Hospitality Innovation and Technology Lab opens at WVU

Nemacolin, the luxury resort set in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands, opens the Nemacolin Hospitality Innovation and Technology Lab (HIT Lab) at West Virginia University. This facility, made possible by Nemacolin and the Hardy family's $7 million donation in 2023, aims to redefine hospitality education and practice.

Focused on driving innovation in the hospitality industry, the Nemacolin HIT Lab partners with industry leaders to develop, test and evaluate new technologies, offering practical tools and software to enhance operations. Students and professionals use the lab to engage in real-world projects, gaining hands-on experience with data analysis and industry trends. This facility is designed to support the hospitality workforce with targeted training and solutions that address current challenges.

“At Nemacolin, I’m passionate about nurturing the next generation of hospitality leaders. Our partnership with WVU’s Hardy Family Hospitality and Tourism Management program is a vital step in that journey,” Maggie Hardy, owner and CEO of Nemacolin, said in a statement. “By providing students with hands-on experience and opportunities to learn from industry experts, we’re not only helping them build successful careers but also strengthening the hospitality sector in the Appalachian region. The tourism industry is a cornerstone of our local economy, and I’m excited to be part of a program that equips future leaders to drive its growth and make a lasting impact on our community."

Utilizing tools such as the Internet of Things, augmented reality and virtual reality, the Nemacolin HIT Lab allows students, faculty and industry professionals to engage with cutting-edge hospitality software and applications. By addressing real-world challenges through experiential learning and hands-on projects, the Nemacolin HIT Lab aims to revolutionize traditional practices, ensuring a more efficient and dynamic approach to hospitality operations.
