And as Hotel Management celebrates its 150th anniversary throughout 2025, we are also celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Palace Hotel, which opened its doors in 1875. With 755 guestrooms, the original Palace Hotel in San Francisco was, at the time of its construction, the largest hotel in the western United States.
The property was the first luxury hotel in San Francisco and was the city’s tallest building for more than a decade at seven stories and 120 feet.
The earthquake and subsequent fires of 1906 devastated both San Francisco and the Palace Hotel, however, but as the city rose from both literal and proverbial ashes in the following years, so did the hotel, which reopened in 1909 with architectural details that brought a new sense of style and opulence to a resurrected San Francisco.
Today, the Palace Hotel is a member of both Historic Hotels of America and of Marriott’s Luxury Collection. As Hotel Management celebrates a century and a half, the magazine wants to recognize the Palace Hotels’ exceptional service and the generations of guests, staff and partners who have made this legacy possible. Hotel Management looks forward to celebrating its next milestone along with the Palace Hotel again. Here’s to the next 150 years and the adventures they will bring.
