Santa Monica conversion sets spring opening

The Sandbourne Santa Monica, Calif., is set to debut in spring 2024. The former Le Merigot Santa Monica has 175 guestrooms and suites.

Designer Gulla Jónsdóttir and her team are using textures like woven fibers and soft linens which coexist harmoniously with sleek, polished surfaces, contemporary art pieces and minimalist accents to create the spaces. The color palette echoes the natural tones of the sand and sea, punctuated by vibrant hues meant to reflect the energy of city life.

“Sandbourne Santa Monica was a thrilling endeavor for us that required a blend of creativity, strategic planning, and a deep understanding of the environment of the property - its location and the uniqueness of being a part of not just Santa Monica but Los Angeles,” Jónsdóttir said in a statement.

Public spaces include a pool, lounge, and cabanas as well as an indoor/outdoor fitness center. The property has 10,000 square feet of event space and will add a spa next year.

The grand opening will introduce a new restaurant concept by Santa Monica native Raphael Lunetta. The space has a full dining room, bar and an outdoor patio.
