New York-based Equinox Hotels and White Mirror Studio have collaborated in an effort to take wellness to the next level for guests through specialized in-room rituals creating ‘sleep labs.’
Aimed at enhancing sleep and waking experiences—including audio and audio-visual guided breath work—these rituals are designed to support guests' circadian rhythms. The sleep labs incorporate the calming effects of red and orange light, known for their minimal disruption to melatonin production, according to the London-based company.
“The Sleep Lab is not just an evolution of our commitment to sleep, it is the future of high-performance regeneration,” Chris Norton, CEO of Equinox Hotels, said in a statement. “We have designed a first-of-its-kind experience that merges science and luxury, enabling our guests to achieve peak recovery and performance through optimized sleep.”
White Mirror is a sensory innovation studio that blends science, technology, arts and design in an effort to create transformative wellness experiences for some of the world's largest brands. By integrating cutting-edge sensory technology and evidence-based research, the studio crafts immersive environments and unique content that fosters relaxation, restful sleep and rejuvenation, according to the company.
As part of its collaboration with Equinox Hotels, White Mirror worked alongside Dr. Matthew Walker, a world-leading sleep scientist, to take sleep innovation to new heights.
“Our shared mission is to deliver rituals that facilitate deeper, more restorative sleep and smooth transitions from sleep to wakefulness, addressing the global sleep problem that affects a third of adults,” explained Tom Middleton, co-founder, White Mirror Studio.
One of the innovations is the development of a gentle wake-up soundscape. This audio ritual is designed to gradually ease guests from sleep to alertness, avoiding the disruptive shock of traditional alarm sounds. By focusing on evidence-based strategies and working with Dr. Walker, White Mirror Studio is setting a new standard designed for sleep rituals, according to the company.
