IHG brings voco brand to South Carolina with The Shelby

IHG has officially opened voco The Shelby – Myrtle Beach, which represents the upscale brand’s first property in South Carolina. The Shelby represents a tribute to its namesake: Shelby Ann Byrd, Myrtle Beach’s legendary hostess, athlete, entertainer and coastal spirit, according to the company. The 241-room hotel—which is located just off Kings Highway and in close proximity to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and SkyWheel—is being operated by Springboard Hospitality.

“At voco The Shelby, we’ve created something that feels both refreshingly nostalgic and entirely new, where guests can truly come out of their shell,” Thomas Cooke, general manager, voco The Shelby – Myrtle Beach, said in a statement. “From live local music to flavorful fare at The Palm & Pebble, every detail is meant to surprise, delight and welcome. We can’t wait to welcome guests this summer and share all the magic Myrtle Beach has to offer.”

The hotel’s guestrooms and suites form a seaside sanctuary with retro-inspired interiors, featuring ocean views, private balconies and playful design details, according to the company. Guest room amenities range from La Colombe coffee to Apotheke bath products and an in-room digital adventure guide offering insider tips for exploring Myrtle Beach. The company further noted that the hotel features original mid-century signage, site-wide murals and cheeky touches designed to help every stay feel uniquely Myrtle Beach.

The property has over 1,300 square feet of flexible event space featuring panoramic ocean views and floor-to-ceiling windows. The oceanfront meeting room flows into a courtyard designed for cocktail hours, alfresco receptions and social gatherings.

Other notable elements of the property include The Palm & Pebble, an all-day restaurant and bar, and programming add-ons like yoga on the lawn. A lazy river and pool comprise The Shelby Beach Club, a relaxed oceanfront setting, according to the company.
