Lyn Aoki, senior project manager at Canoe Hospitality, is set to attend Hotec Operations, an annual conference presented by Questex, the parent company of Hotel Management. At the conference—scheduled this year for May 19-21 at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida—buyers meet one-on-one with hospitality-focused suppliers to learn about new products and services and to keep up to date on emerging trends.
Ahead of the conference, Aoki talked about AI, partnerships and how the Canoe team communicates with clients.
1. What are you most excited about for your company in 2025 (and beyond)?
In 2025, I am most excited about Canoe Hospitality's strategic positioning and our ability to partner with organizations that value the white-glove service and procurement expertise we provide. Expanding our reach, I look forward to introducing and working with new OS&E partners to the company, as well as to clients we collaborate with. This evolution strengthens our brand, enhances our offerings and reinforces our commitment to delivering unparalleled luxury experiences.
2. What are some of the biggest operations-related changes you’ve seen in the hotel industry over the past year?
A major operational challenge in the hotel industry has been the impact of tariffs on global trade, driving up vendor costs and increasing the price of goods.
3. How has your business adjusted to these changes?

We stay informed on tariff changes, maintain regular communication with vendors to manage cost and keep clients updated on necessary adjustments. The proactive approach ensures smooth operations and strong partnerships.
4. What are some trends you think will have staying power beyond 2025?
Beyond 2025, key trends that will have lasting impact and staying power include AI automation, personalized guest experiences, contactless mobile solutions, sustainability innovations and enhanced cybersecurity.
5. How are you incorporating new technology, especially AI, into your business?
We use AI to streamline vendor sourcing, optimize pricing and enhance supply chain efficiency. This helps to improve decision making for a more responsive procurement process.
6. What steps are you taking to improve sustainability in the industry?
We collaborate with key stakeholders including vendors, to explore sustainable products and trends, sharing insights with clients interested in supporting the cause. Our focus includes reducing carbon footprints, greener procurement strategies and sourcing eco-friendly materials to drive sustainability in the industry.
7. What is the biggest challenge you have overcome over the past year? How did you overcome it?
Transitioning to a new e-procurement platform that is robust in some ways and needs enhancement in other ways. Taking a hands-on approach, actively exploring the system and asking right questions helped with the transition.
8. What is the value of meeting hospitality suppliers one-on-one?
Meeting hospitality suppliers fosters familiarity with our procurement company, builds trust and strengthens relationships. It allows us to align on common goals, establish rapport and demonstrate our value as a long-term partner.
9. What do you hope to accomplish at Hotec this year?
I am hoping to connect with various suppliers for OSE, introduce them to Canoe Hospitality and explore new market trends. I look forward to building relationships, discovering innovative products and expanding our network within the industry.
