Rockbridge takes ownership of Denver hotel, club

Hospitality-focused investment firm Rockbridge has formed a new ownership group to oversee the Clayton Hotel and Members Club, a hotel and club in the Denver neighborhood of Cherry Creek. The club’s operations will be led by Makeready.

This collaboration builds on an established relationship in Cherry Creek. Rockbridge and Makeready have owned and operated Halcyon, a hotel in the neighborhood, for many years with BMC Investments as a limited partner. “We’re proud to deepen our connection to Cherry Creek and help realize Clayton’s original vision,” Jimmy Merkel, CEO and co-founder of Rockbridge and CEO of Makeready, said in a statement. “The location and quality of the development are first class, and we see tremendous opportunity to build on Clayton’s foundation. Our goal is to thoughtfully refine and elevate the experience so that membership continues to feel special, vibrant, and deeply rooted in this community.”

Under the new ownership, investments will include improvements to the second floor and expanded club programming, rolling out in phases over the coming months. The property’s leadership also is finalizing a partnership with a local chef who will oversee all food and beverage for the club. The ground level already has two restaurants: Alteño, by Johnny Curiel, and Bar Amorina.

The new operator and owner have also appointed new leadership at the property level. McClinton Heil, already managing director at Halcyon, will now take on the same role at the Clayton, overseeing both properties. Heil has held leadership roles with Viceroy Hotels, Lido House and The Ritz-Carlton before joining Makeready.
